Tourist Statistics of Nyingchi and Tibet 2007

After the opening of the Qinghai-Tibet railway and Nyingchi airport, There are over 800,000 travelers coming to Nyingchi for traveling in the year of 2007, which is a 31% increase comparing to last year. The income rising from the tourism reached 420 million RMB, a 75% increase comparing to last year. The number of local people who are engaged in tourism is 1,317 from 531 families, earning 5,974,300 RMB, a 14.3% increase comparing to last year. The goal for 2008 is to receive 1 million travelers and 600 million RMB income from tourism.
Nyingchi Peach blossom Festival to start in March - March 2008
This year, Nyingchi Peach blossom Festival will start in middle March and last till the end of March.
10 kilometers away from Bayi Township of Nyingchi County, the Gala Village covers a total area of 500 mu and is famous for its beautiful peachblossom. Since 2002, Nyingchi Peachblossom Festival has offered tourists traditional folk performances, competitions as well as the peachblossom and snowy mountains.
Currently, there are eight star-level hotels in Nyingchi Prefecture and local government will ensure tourists' accommodation by taking different measures, according to an official from Nyingchi Tourism Bureau.
Piled Relics of Ancient Glaciers
There are two villages, Qundo and Yuri, at the bottom of the U-shaped valley of the glacier. There are typical distributions of ancient glacier relics. The wide river valley plain is a barn of grains for Bome County. The tomb-like ice mounds have different shapes, which constitute a rare natural landscape. They provide an ideal place for scientific research and specialized tourism. There are simple roads there and tourists can have a return tour within one day.
Nyingchi Yarlung Zangbo Cultural & Tourism Festival to open in Sep.
2007 Nyingchi Yarlung Zangbo Cultural & Tourism Festival will be held on Sep. 12-17, sources from Guangdong Tourism Bureau.
During the festival, Yarlung Zangbo trip, entrance sector trip of Great Canyon, Basum Co Lake, Shambhala trip, folk songs and dances, photograph exhibition and some other activities will be held.
With an average altitude of 3,100 meters, Nyingchi is a natural oxygen producer in Tibet and 46% of its land is covered by forests. Nyingchi will become the first door to enter Tibet and a famous scenic spot in Tibet with the operation of Qinghai-Tibet Railway and Nyingchi Airport.
