Nang County is located in the southeast of the Tibet Autonomous Region and at the middle branches of the Yarlung Zangbo River. It has a population of 13,000. Nang County covers an area of 4,186 square kilometres. The physiognomy style of the area is basically altiplano and upland. The average altitude of the county is 3200 meters above sea level.

The main mine resources in the county are chrome, iron, tin, crystal, gold dust and sulphur, etc. The vegetation resources are mainly forests.

The main economy in Nang County is farming and stock raising. Special products in the area are various livestock products, capsicum, fritillaria, grape, apple, walnut and Tibetan cap, etc. There are also the Tibetan hat and wooden bowl made in Nang County.


Nang county is a famous place of religion culture. The Barqoide Monastery in Nang County, which has a history of over 1,000 years is a famous local ancient monastery. There, you also can visit the Zarisarba Mountain and Lhe Hill's ancient tombs, Lmalin temple and Lhamaling Monastery.

Nang County is the hometown of both 13th Dalai Lama and the 9th Panchen Qoigyi Nyima.
