Mainling County
Mainling means "medicine land" in Tibetan. Mainling County is located in the east of the Tibet Autonomous Region, at the middle reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River, and between the Nyainqentanglha Mountains and the Himalay Mountain. Mainling County has a population of 15,000, and covers an area of 9,471 square kilometres. The average altitude is 3,700 metres above sea level.
The mainly local resident of Mainling County is the Lhoba ethnic group, which has its own language, old custom, traditional folkway and florid clothes. When passing through Mainling County, it turns suddenly to the south, and cuts the Himalayas into two parts, and then flows into the narrow channel between Namjagbarwa peak and La’gyabelei Peak-both the peaks are more than 7,000 meters.
